JLL sponsored Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Grow Georgia Summit at Twelve Atlantic Station on Thursday, June 8, 2017. This year’s theme was “Sports and Real Estate Team Up,” as real estate decision-making in Georgia is being driven by sports and entertainment more than ever before. The panels addressed Professional, Collegiate, and Large-Scale Recreational Sports Facilities.
JLL Atlanta Market Director Mike Sivewright introduced the first panel on Professional Facilities. Sivewright touched on JLL’s involvement and the success of The Battery and new Braves stadium, saying, “There are few better examples of how sports can boost real estate than SunTrust Park.”
John Ahmann of Westside Future Fund, Steven Cannon of AMB Group, and Atlanta Braves President Derek Schiller went on to discuss how the development of new stadiums and professional athletic facilities will impact the surrounding communities.
“The first mission for us was to curate a very good fan experience” that “starts well before you enter the ballpark” said Schiller.
SunTrust Park has “created a neighborhood” and energy and “place people want to gather” that Mercedes-Benz Stadium hopes to replicate, said AMB Group CEO Steve Cannon.
The economic impact of the project is and will be felt at the county, state, and regional levels as SunTrust Park galvanized an area into a community generating strong economic return. The Cumberland submarket also has the highest percentage of millennials, noted Schiller.
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s summit and to the panelists for an excellent showing of CRE discussion!
