In March, JLL’s Latino Employee Resource Network – LERN – hosted an internal event at the Buckhead Club that boasted a standing room-only crowd. LERN is one of JLL’s several voluntary, employee-led, internal resource groups that provides a platform to celebrate diversity, surface new ideas, and network with colleagues to make meaningful connections across the organization.
The event’s panel was titled “The Power of Speaking Up and Speaking Out” and consisted of four panelists who traveled from as far as Texas to facilitate an open discussion about diversity and inclusion. Panelists included:
- Juan Escudero – National Director for JLL’s Corporate Solutions Team
- Roma Williams – Vice President for JLL Atlanta’s Retail Team
- Faron Thompson – International Director for JLL’s Capital Markets Team
- Yovany Jerez – Organizational and Leadership Consultant for AT&T & President of HACEMOS
Also from the JLL Atlanta home team was Marketing Manager Ambar Scott Alvarenga and her husband, Matt. The couple opened the event discussing their own experience as a mixed-race couple – Ambar, Salvadoran and Matt, Caucasian – and the importance of vocabulary used in defining themselves individually and as a couple. Ambar touched on some eye-opening conversations her and her husband have had about racism and how diversity and inclusion is not about creating advantages for some but instead removing barriers for all.
JLL takes pride in a culture that is inclusive of all backgrounds and experiences, so thank you all who attended and helped make the event a success!
